Who dances at the Star of the North?Who dances at the Star of the North? Here are true 'Star of the North' stories about dancers just like you. We swear they're true! MOLLY & MARTIN - Social Dancers"Molly" loved to social dance! She went to all the dances in town - from Argentine Tango to Lindy - and had a blast every time she was out on the floor. She never once considered competing as a dancer, thinking that somehow it would be a step away from social dancing, until ... One day "Martin" asked Molly if she would compete with him at the Star of the North. Until then, Martin had just been some random guy at the dance studio. But Martin had a vision. He wanted to experience dancing as a competitor in addition to social dancing. He wanted the challenge of working towards a goal, of practicing with a partner, and of growing as a dancer like he never had before. Molly was at first a bit reluctant, but after considering the question decided that it was only one event. "Why not give it a try?" she asked herself. So the two began to study and practice a little together. They found that they grew immensely as dancers, as well as people. When the Star of the North weekend finally arrived, they had oh' so much fun, and after all their work, they realized that their dancing had reached a whole new level. Since then, Molly and Martin have continued to compete together. Not as "super serious" competitors, as some of the other couples do, but serious enough to enjoy the thrill of competition and to find growth as social dancers, as well. Molly and Martin became good friends, and so did their spouses. To this day, the two families get together regularly – even for vacations and holidays. Molly and Martin say: "Thank you Star of the North!" RON & ANGIE – Top competitors"Ron & Angie" were tip of the top championship dancers. They racked up awards across the country and around the world for both American and International styles, as well as for polka and square dancing. They seemed to live a charmed dancing life, except... They lost their passion. Dancing had become a chore. They no longer enjoyed their hours practicing together and were no longer moved by the music. They still won awards, but began to ask themselves deeper questions. "Is this all there is?" they asked. "What is the meaning of dance?" One day Angie was reviewing options for competitions to attend when an ad for a competition in Minnesota caught her attention. "The Star of the North" she read, "hottest weekend of the year." Seemed intriguing. Maybe a little winter vacation to Minnesota would help lift their spirits. Angie & Ron decided that the Star of the North was just what they needed. They weren't disappointed. They found a new energy and excitement surrounding them. Dancers of all skill levels and ages were having fun on the floor again! The love of dancing filled the room and the hearts and spirits of everyone there. Competing was fun again, and the enthusiasm of newer competitors was inspiring! Ron & Angie found new purpose to their dancing. Since their very first Star of the North, they have been inspired to excel at dancing beyond their wildest dreams. They have become infectious ambassadors for dancing and have made it their goal to help many new dancers get started in competing. Ron & Angie say, "Thank you Star of the North!" |
